Dear Furness Families:

This letter is to inform you of an incident that occurred off school grounds. Last night at 11 p.m., we became aware of a social media posting in which a current student claimed she was going to commit acts of violence at our school today, Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

We immediately reported the threat to the Philadelphia Police Department, School District of Philadelphia Police and District officials. The threat turned out to be a hoax.

At no time were students and staff in danger.  Our school day is proceeding as normal.

I want to assure you that we take the health and safety of our students and staff very seriously.  In fact, students and staff safety is the top priority here at Furness High School.  We followed School District protocols and took the necessary steps in response to this incident.  As a precaution, we will have school police officers and Philadelphia Police officers at our school building throughout today.

Please feel free to contact the school at 215-400-8300 if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your continued support of Furness High School.

Sincerely,

Daniel Peou

Principal
